POSITION SUMMARY

The Superintendent is responsible for providing a leadership role in developing, implementing, coordinating and evaluating an effective program of instruction for the Academy and carrying out Board Policies and Administrative Guidelines. The Superintendent will work under the direct supervision of the Academy's Board of Directors. The Superintendent, as the chief administrative officer of the School District, is the primary professional advisor to the Board and is responsible for the development, supervision, and operation of all district programs, operations, and facilities.

CRITICAL COMPONENTS - MAJOR DUTIES
•Develop a relevant Curriculum that fits low performing students' needs and development patterns in alignment with the Charter agreement.
•Ensure that all areas of Compliance are submitted properly and meet necessary requirements.
•Ensure that all aspects of Title I programming, reporting, and spending are effective and meet the necessary requirements.
•Ensure all aspects of the Special Education Department are effective and meet the necessary requirements.
•Serve as point of contact between the Academy Board of Directors and Charter Authorizer, as necessary.
Overall Educational Academic Components
•Ensure that the Academy meets and maintains successful accountability ratings under federal and State law.
•Ensure practices that will guide the Academy to meet or exceed academic goals/targets.
•Cooperatively and professionally perform any tasks that are assigned that will promote the Mission of the Academy.
•Ensure that the academic curricula meets all federal, State and Contracted guidelines and requirements.
•Determine educational staffing needs in relationship to accomplishing the Academy's goals.
•Assist in utilizing available test results to assist in program evaluation.
•Coordinate special departmental meetings/professional development devoted to the improvement of instruction and evaluation.


Evaluations
•Assess Low Performing Students, Turn Around Plan Results and Action Plan monthly

•Assess curriculum goals and objectives established for the instructional process monthly

•Assess students' performances and determine whether or not established goals were met

•Ensure that both formal and informal assessments are conducted for students' achievement, staff performance, and curricular goal attainment.

•Coordinate and monitor the evaluation and supervision of teaching, maintenance, and administrative personnel assigned to the Academy.
•Conduct performance evaluations of all employees assigned to the Academy.

•Ensure that teaching methods and strategies are regularly observed and assessed monthly.

•Ensure monthly feedback is given to teachers to identify strengths and weaknesses in their teaching skills.


Management and Supervision Component
•Approve Purchase Orders for Academic Fiscal Expenditures ensuring the most cost effective means of purchasing school related items.

•Represent the mission of the Academy in an effective manner generating public support for the Academy's program.

•Demonstrate leadership by making the necessary changes to ensure that the students receive a quality education.

•Ensure that the Academy Board policies, procedures, practices and guidelines are followed.


Board of Directors
•Present to Board staffing and other Educational issues as necessary.
•Advise Board of Directors on Human Resource matters.


Other Critical Components as Assigned
•Identify and apply for grants that support the educational components of the Academy.

•Serve as a role model for the moral and ethical growth and socialization of the children.

•Establish and promote cohesiveness and leadership among staff members.

•Must maintain professional appearance and personal conduct at all times.

•Responsible for punctual, regular and consistent attendance.

•Attend monthly advisory meetings.

•Respond to all levels of supervision.

•Maintain confidentiality of all district information.

•Provide guidance and leadership for district and management staff as outlined in the job description.

•Ensure that Academy policies, procedures, practices and guidelines are followed.

•Ensure the student code of conduct supports the academic culture of the district.

•Serve on the Academy's Executive Team and work collaboratively with all members of the team to ensure coordinated planning and consistent implementation of the District's Improvement Plan.


 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•Have earned at least a Master's degree and hold an administrator license.
•All administrators or other person whose primary responsibility is administering instructional programs or as a chief business official shall meet the certification and continuing education requirements as described in MCL 380.1246.
•Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule.
•Have acquired at least three years of school administration experience.
•Have established him/herself as an educational leader in the profession through active participation in a variety of areas.
•Ability to communicate with others in a systematic and positive manner.
•Ability to develop constructive relationships with others.
•Ability to assume responsibility with a minimum of direct supervision.
•Demonstrate clear, concise, and correct communication both written and oral.

•Employment is contingent upon satisfactory criminal background checks.
